At Bauhaus, we are not only committed to providing cutting edge cuisine, but innovative style as well. We are thrilled to sport chef's apparel by local Canadian uniform manufacturers Blackwood Career Apparel + Essentials. Blackwood takes uniform quality seriously, placing a strong emphasis on the character of each garment, as well as technical construction and fabric finishes that bring the best product to the table. Blackwood is where style meets functionality. With the same comfort and quality they're known for and with added features like denim and leather, the new Maverick line will keep our Bauhaus kitchen staff working in style. Who ever said uniforms have to be boring? The brainchild of Christine Blackwood, the concept for Alternative Uniform Design was formed after Christine spent 6 months working at Expo 1988 in Australia. Noting the creative chef jackets and uniforms sported by Australian employees, Christine saw a need for similar style quality in Canada. Following seven months of travel in Southeast Asia, all the while developing her concept, Christine established ChefWear Designs in Vancouver, and Alternative Uniform Design was on its way. At age 28, Blackwood, back in Vancouver, began the fledgling company ChefWear Designs. With business guidance from her father and a sewing machine, chef jackets and aprons took shape from her one bedroom apartment. And with an outgoing personality, sales began to develop. As the business grew, so did the line of clothing, and to broaden the focus of the company, Blackwood renamed her business Alternative Uniform Design, creating not only kitchen uniforms but front of house clothing as well. ChefWear remained as the label name and is now sported across Canada in kitchens, restaurants and hotels. The Maverick line was designed in house by Christine Blackwood and her staff to bring something new and exciting to the market: "It was designed to help us stand out from the competition and appeal to some of the trendier chefs and restaurants that have been emerging in recent years. The Maverick line appeals to all ages and demographics and as the term ‘uniform’ evolves we wanted to do the same." Thanks to Christine and the entire Blackwood team, the kitchen staff at Bauhaus are looking sharp and stylish in their new chefwear. To read more about the Blackwood brand, visit their website.
