On January 16th, diners at Vikram Vij’s South Surrey restaurant My Shanti, are in for a culinary treat! That evening, in a one-of-a-kind event, Chefs Vikram Vij and Stefan Hartmann from Gastown’s Bauhaus restaurant, will share a kitchen, and create dishes from each other’s home countries – India and Germany respectively. This Bau-llywood pairing will see Vij returning to the European roots he set down in the 80’s – he lived and worked in Germany for a time, as well as being trained in Austria where German cuisine is the norm – and will mean Michelin-starred Chef Hartmann can revisit some of the Indian dishes he created for Berlin’s large Indian community before his move to Vancouver.
“I cannot wait to cook food with a German influence again,” says Vij. “I’m working on some great dishes, with some incredible and authentic ingredients, and I’m excited to hear what people think when they taste them.”
“It’s going to be a really wonderful experience" says Hartmann. “I’m a huge fan of Indian food, and when the idea of this culinary swap came about, I thought it would be a great chance to showcase a different style of cooking for both of us.”
The event will be ticket-only, and for $99, you will receive a four course dinner, complete with wine pairings from local wineries.
You can book by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: “Bau-llywood”

You're invited to a Napa Valley wine dinner! On June 20th at 7pm, join Uwe Boll's Wine Club for a special dinner featuring some of the top Napa Valley wines. Chef Stefan Hartmann will be creating an extra special menu for the event, which is sure to please.
After our successful Australian and Austrian themed wine dinners, we will now move on to California's Napa Valley region. The wine menu for the evening will be a selection of the top wines from the region, with one White and 3-4 Cabernets. This will mark the first of our dinners featuring wines from the USA, a trend we wish to continue in the future. The dinner and tasting will be an intimate affair, with a maximum of twenty participants so we can all sit in front of the kitchen (where the magic happens). The set menu price is $130, and wine is additional. You may choose which wines you sample and, as always, they will be served at price plus 10%.
If you still aren't convinced, we'd like to share a message from Uwe Boll himself which illustrates his remarkable passion for wine. Uwe says, "Every night I walk through the restaurant and talk with our guests. My hope is to impart some good advice: a delicious dish tastes even better when paired with the right wine. Whether you're enjoying braised beef, steak, duck, or deer, you will lose one-third of the flavour of the dish if you pair it with a cocktail instead of a good red wine. We keep our wine prices at the lowest margins possible to encourage our patrons to make the most of their dining experience. This starts with the perfect glass of wine. My wine club is the perfect place to learn."

On Wednesday May 18th, we will be joining eleven other Vancouver restaurants in the fight against youth hunger by participating in Mealshare's fundraiser, Tonight For Tomorrow. Many of Vancouver's most prominent city landmarks and buildings will be light up orange in support of Mealshare’s fight against children and youth food insecurity. It will be an evening of delicious food, prizes, and impact. If you’re planning on eating out at all in May, make sure it’s on May 18th at our restaurant, because you’ll be eating for an amazing cause!

Are you ready to try some of Austria's best? This month's wine club - scheduled for April 20th at 7 pm - will feature a special selection of Austrian wines procured by Bauhaus owner and wine connoisseur, Uwe Boll."After eight months of work and negotiation, I was able to import a number of Austrian wines, now exclusively available at Bauhaus. Three of them are available for under $200 and the 100 point Salzberg is listed for $350. I'm so pleased to be able to share these wines with our guests," says Boll. The wine club will feature one Austrian white and four amazing reds from Burgenland, all awarded 96 to 100 points. Wineries featured include Salzburg, Heinrich and Gsellmann Bela Rex. The wines will be offered for approximately 60% of the standard list price and served by the glass. Chef Stefan Hartmann will also be preparing a special wine pairing menu, inspired by the bottles we'll be sampling this evening.
Tasting menu is $130 per person. Wine is additional. Club members only pay for the wines they would like to sample. To reserve, click on the button below and add "WINE CLUB DINNER" to your email.
From January 20-29th, Bauhaus Restaurant invites you to dine out with us in Vancouver. Our own Michelin-starred Stefan Hartmann will pay tribute to famous chefs Marco Pierre White and Juan Amador by preparing two different menus inspired by their respective culinary styles. Tickets are $95 per person (excluding beverages) for 6-courses and you get to choose either the Marco Pierre White or the Juan Amador menu. Tickets can be purchased through Dine Out Vancouver.
January 20-22 - Marco Pierre White is a world-class chef, restaurateur, and celebrity who has been referred to as “the godfather of modern cooking.” He has made invaluable contributions to contemporary British cuisine, including the popularization of celebrity chef culture, training notorious TV personalities Gordon Ramsay and Curtis Stone. He is the youngest chef to have ever been awarded three Michelin stars.
January 28-30th - Juan Amador is one of the world’s best chefs, preparing fresh interpretations of classic Spanish cuisine. His restaurant Amador in Mannheim, Germany was honoured with an astounding three Michelin stars, which he has maintained since 2011. He compares cooking to music: “Writing a new song, performing it and then to have the feedback, either positive or negative, is very similar to what we do in the kitchen.”
No one loves our hometown hockey boys quite like Bauhaus. To celebrate the Vancouver Canucks with us, stop by for dinner before the game. Plan your visit to Bauhaus Restaurant with the 2015-16 Regular Season Schedule:
To usher in the fall season, Uwe Boll has highlighted some of his favourite German classics on the menu. One of the dishes he is most excited about is a Sauerbraten that originates from his hometown region of Cologne. Sauerbraten is a quintessential German national dish, a roast marinated in red wine, vinegar and spices for six days and then served with red cabbage, potato dumplings and egg spätzle. The truly unique aspect of Sauerbraten is that each region of Germany offers its own distinct cooking style. Since Chef Stefan Hartmann was born in Uelzen and Uwe Boll in Cologne, their techniques for preparing the dish vastly differ.
To settle once and for all which region has the better Sauerbraten, Stefan and Uwe have decided to wage the ultimate one-day cook off on October 20th. Guests will be treated to a blind taste test of the two dishes that will be judged by industry professionals. Tickets are $60 and will include a 3-course meal and sauerbraten two ways.
Book your seat now for the Sauerbraten battle of the season!
